Description
First of all, I'm sorry for having been away for so long, as always, I've been very very busy... (I must have already said it 100000 times....)I hope you're all doing great ^^
This painting is a concept for a videogame project about Atlantis. The characters are Atlas, the king of Atlantis and a Nereid : Dione.
It had to be a little bit similar to "Deep Sea Creature" because this one has become part of the game aswell (so I've added the same features on the faces under the eyes, a similar composition, etc...)
This is some kind of a "speed painting" (10 hours...) and yeah, I know about the blurry hand... boo boo, it's ugly ^^ I'll fix it when I have more time ) so it's a little bit messy... I had to meet a deadline so I've not had time to make it look better and I'm a little bit too busy at the moment to work more on it.
Photoshop CS and my beloved wacom, my bf used as a ref for Atlas face and a mirror for the Nereid's face (each member of the team will be converted into one of the game characters and since my name is very similar to the one of this Nereid, I've painted myself as her
More coming soon!

10 hours....
07/16/07 @726
the ambiance is very cold, contrarily to Deep sea creature, and you achieved that feeling very well.
I think the upper lip should be lighter given the overall lighting.
I really like the girl in the background (you). It really looks like you and I like it, you have a very pretty face.
07/16/07 @728
why? come on I cant be the only one who wants to see your new BF
its a perfect excuse! lol
post it!
love this one Diane!
great work!
man he has a handsome face!
07/16/07 @729
The upper lip is very dark indeed, but the shadows under the nose / eyebrows are very dark indeed, I've painted what I've seen looking at him
I've sharpened it a little bit indeed because the jpg compression totally killed it, but I'm not pleased with the result, the original looks much better (this one looks flat, oversharpened in some areas and very blurry in some other areas, I really don't like this jpg compression!)
Thank you very much for your comment
Pam : I don't have a ref for this one, but I can still post the reference I'm using for the current painting I'm working on
07/16/07 @732

07/16/07 @735

and no CS3 for me yet maybe someday *sigh*
07/16/07 @739
Pam : you're welcome
07/16/07 @765
Great work, especially in 10 hours, I would have guessed more in the 20 hours
This image is very well executed, but the composition doesn’t have quite as much "punch" as some of your other work, such as your "lord of nightmares".
CS3 extended, is indeed quite nice, CS3 "standard" isn’t worth it... it feels more like CS 2.2 with some interface changes.

Great work! Not your best though, but remarkable as this is a speedpaint(!)
Lovely colours,
great lighting
Composition is definately the 'weakest' element,
it feels thrown in a bit.
Overall an impressive work of art, love those bubbels
+ 9

As usual your work is AMAZING!!
I love the feeling of breathing underwater which youve created perfectly here...
My tops ofcourse
07/16/07 @809
Vincent : yes, I think that adding some extra space on the left and working more on the hand would have done the trick (and also working more on the nereid, she's very sketchy....) but I had to meet a deadline, so here's the result, an unbalanced speedpaint ^^ Thanks a lot for your crit!

The hairs have a good flow, perhaps have a few of the bubbles not so out of focus . . . .
Can't wait for your next work . . . .
07/17/07 @194
i think the blue lighting is very well used to make the mysterious look
glad to see you back!

Sorry, just jealous
Great work. The double focus works really well, I love how you direct the viewers eye from the background to forground and vice versa.

I think you did a great job on the faces; I have a problem with the guy's hair though, it does not appear to have enough consistency and it does not blend with the head very well.. dunno how to explain it

A couple of problems, though: His hand was difficult to make out at first. To me it seems a little awkward and perhaps too blurred. I'd also expect his fingers to be stronger, less lady-like, or even webbed would be cool.
As I said, his eyes are amazing, but the woman's eyes don't work so well. It looks like she has closed her eyes and we're looking at her eyelids. A bit of shadow on the top lid and a speck of highlight where the lower lid meets the eye would sort it out.
The rest is superb!

Raluca : thanks
BaronImpossible : thank you very much for your extended comment, much appreciated!
The red lips weren't an afterthought (actually, it was one of the first things I've done), but I see what you mean since I've not worked a lot on them, they look a little bit sketchy and artificial. Thank you very much!

The shoulder is not rounded on purpose, but I think that I should have made it more pointy (his left shoulder is also too round... I really should fix it ^^) Thanks

About this blurry effect on his hand, I don't find it too disturbing 'cos it adds depth to the view, like blurred bubbles do. But these hands are too thin like BaronImpossible said. Anyway +10... oops I forgot I am not at this stage where I can vote more than +9. So...
Oh and thanks a lot for having listed me in your favourite artists list. I feel very honoured
07/20/07 @612
The hands are too thin indeed, and too blurry (actually, too "airbrushy", it could be blurry in another way ^^)
Thanks again! =)
