Description

Hi artists! :)

This painting has no particular meaning, I had just started doing a hair painting tutorial then I've finished the sketch I had done...
Nothing special ;)

Please note that it's a quickie compared to my other works so it may look a little bit rushed (I've spent 7 hours on it).

No refs used, I've had a hard time figuring the hand... it still looks off but since it's not something I had planned to paint nicely, I don't really care :)

C&C are very welcome!
The tutorial can be viewed here so you can see how different is the final image http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/48064074/

Edit : since you seem to like this one, I'm editing it to turn it into a finished piece. There will be much more details, textures and the hand will be ok (I'll try to do so), I'll post it as soon as possible ;)

Edit n°2 : I've spent 4 more hours on it so it's now a "finished" piece (at least more refined than the previous one ;))

PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THE CLOSEUPS :)

I hope you'll like it :)

Great work, although the girls/artwork is in danger of looking similar to the last. Push into new territory when you feel the urge :)

Excellent work Diane.

WHOA! a quickie? lol! this is fantastic! there are so many elements i like here.. the background, her fur collar, the bird..just to name a few. if i had to name anything negative it would be to leave out the jewels in her forehead and the "wrinkles" (?) under them. i think those *might* be overkill but the rest is for me to lust for!!!

Yeah, you're right Glenn ;) I just don't feel like doing something else for now.... this one was just meant to be a hair tut at first

Maddagone : 7 hours = painting+sketching. I've spent 6 hours on the painting and 1 on the sketch :)

Thank you very very much btw artists, I was a little bit ashamed of posting this since it's a quickie without any meaning but I'm really glad you like it! (paint)

 02/06/07 @071

wicked work for 6 hours!

I see where the hand is slightly off it's just the first knuckle of the index finger should appear shorter than the middle fingers first knuckle...but that is it!

I love that strand of hairs draped over the horn. Keep it up Diane.

Avatar Maddagone

 02/06/07 @075

8o 6 hours *cough* *gasp*

Avatar Diane

 02/06/07 @077

In fact, it's not so detailed, all the "details" are only small brushtrokes that make it look very detailed but it's not. The fur has been done very quickly, the bird too... The bg is a 5 minutes thingie. It's not so hard to do, it's just that I do this kind of work very often :)

Avatar loneorbit

 02/06/07 @094

The style although rushed is pretty consistent through out this piece. Jewels that adorn her feel right at home in their positioning, those draped across horns appear relatively flat in comparison. Her expression (notably eyes) pull you in as she gazes upon bird, which looks right back at her. The bird itself is nice and expressively rendered, but it appears to have no claws holding branch. Other than that a well done piece.

Amazing!!! :) +9/9

Avatar Diane

 02/06/07 @099

Thank you :)

the claws are meant to be hidden by the body ;) I know that some parts are flat, I really didn't have time and will to push it further, I wanted it to stay a "speedpainting" :) I'll try to do better next time

Very striking! I love her face and how her hair becomes the horns. Her eyes are gorgeous, too. ^_^ Beautiful lighting!

...and this only took you seven hours? o_O

Avatar JordanRoots

 02/06/07 @143

I think she does not look like you, which is a good thing. She's very beautiful., when I saw the tutorial, I thought this would make a nice painting, and it became one, very well done Diane.
The mouth is very cool, her eyes are piecing, her expression is peaceful mixed with anxiety. I wonder how you do that.
+10 for sure!

Avatar Wallace

 02/06/07 @148

Stunning!

The part I love the most are her lips
Great textures and almost unreal considering the limited time

The only thing I can notice are the lightbeams which really look rushed

Besides that its fantastic + 10

 02/06/07 @516

Awesome!

I like the idea of horns made out of hair - i think i saw it only once before in "The Cell" movie (weak movie with horrible acctress, but visually beautiful sceneries).

The only thing i like less in this painting are those orangish dots floating. If they were ment to be "magical lights" they are not enough "blinking light". I don't know... they look kinda "flat". If they were ment to be a "dust" of some sort then they are too big.

 02/06/07 @650

Thank you very very very much for your comments and crits! (paint) I really didn't expect such a warm response for this painting, thank you so much!

I know that the finger looks off, the "magical lights" things could be brighter (I've tried but it detracted from the main figure) and the horns could have used some more work... Maybe I'll finish it someday :) For now it's a quick painting or a very worked sketch ;)

Thank you very very much!

Avatar anastasia

 02/06/07 @693

One more impressive work from you!
I like it even i dislike horns and pointy nails....
You wrote that your painting has no particular meaning, but i can see that something comes from it... It's like you are trying to say that dark creatures have still a nice part in them. I see a painful expression to her while she touches the bird. Like she is remembering a beauty and love she once have but lost...
I believe that you may didn't planned any of this... it's amazing though how art can ''speak'' to each one of us...

Avatar Avantis

 02/06/07 @717

wow Diane nice work! I really like how the dramatic atmosphere and the light is hitting the back of her head and howm it contrasts with the calmness of the bird. top marks!
