Description
First of all, sorry for having been away for so long (that won't be the last time though, I actually have a lot of work to do).Mermaids have been lots of times described as beautiful and kind creatures. But that's not the way they are described in mythology. They are said to be crual winged creatures that turned into a crual mix between human beings and fish. They were singing to attract sailors then they eat them.
This is my own version of a mermaid/siren, a deep sea creature using photophore to attract preys.
Photoshop CS and a wacom intuos 3A4
No reference used (only doing some google search to see how the photophore of the anglerfish looks like) so there must be lots of issues but I like it as it is now
30 hours approx.
Edit : since you told me that it was not explicit, I've removed my question

I like those things on her mouth, well, I like pretty much everything in this picture actually. I agree with Deankuhta about the D-spot thing...
Oh, and, even If She (it) doesn't breath O2, I think there should be bubbles somewhere.. but..
this is a master piece (as usual) that deserve a +9
Good work Diane!

I think the image could use something for the cherry on top.
Perhaps some bubbles, small fish swimming by, or just plain dirt floating by? just a thought.
okay, I'm going to say something now which would make me
unpopular, but this being an open and honest community, I think it's
a good thing to be honest, everyone has his/her own opinion right? and everyone
is entitled to say so...
The thing is, I think your (painting) works are getting a bit predictable.
You seem to be hooked on faces and one quarter of the upper body to show.
I think you are a lot more creative than to stick to this 'formula'
What I would love to see from you is some more radical perspectives, landscapes, buildings, storytelling, etc.
Don't get me wrong, you are some sort of a genius, but i think you are capable of so much more
I hope I'm not a partypooper
+ 10, because this painting is qualitative way up there

Wallace : I know what you mean, I'm damn lazy so when I have time to paint for my own pleasure (I have actually a LOT of work to do - professional projects - so I can't paint for me) I do what I love, so it's always creatures (upper part of the body, that may be due to the cinema studies I had done. Bodies are very often cropped ^^ ) with strange faces and things like that.... But I'll try to post different things aswell. That's just that I don't have time to do them for now
About the dirt, I wanted to keep it simple (some artists told me that I had already added too many elements so I've stopped working on it)
Thanks again for your comments artists!

Great job!

I have to agree with some of the other comments, this is definately one of your better works. Fantastic lighting and colour design, and im sure that foreshortening must have been a bitch

I like the composition and the "deep sea' lighting.
Why the question about it being explicit? I don't see it.

Cool mermaid.
I love all your work
What happen with my photo?
09/03/06 @680
Love the light effects...my only critic would be that , there should have been some bubbles or an effect of water...i feel shes standing upright...you know. But if you feel this is right...then it is...no one can take away the hard work you have put in this one...keep growing friend.
cheers!

AWSOME JOB!

This is truly a different angle of the mermaid than the 'nice' tales. She is still beautiful though.
The lighting is good, and I really get the creepy feeling of beeing deep below the water surface, seeing her gliding out of the dark towards me... I'm glad I'm not a sailor.
Great pic Diane!

What are you trying to do? Scare us, huh?
Nah, I'm just kidding you gal.
I love the combination of your subject: the mermaid combine with other kind of fish that has a light source on its head like the one in "Finding Nemo". Maybe you should called it "Green Chimera". ha, ha, ha.

The image is quite nightmarish with the hand reaching out towards the viewer.
Having, somewhat belatedly, visited your WiP thread, there were, however, some elements that you discarded along the way that I felt were very strong – longer hair, more of the hand, and the bubbles, were all elements I felt might have been included. The bubbles particularly I felt contributed to the sense of depth and mystery (the final gasp of a drowned mariner? gas from disturbed rotting corpses? or maybe she just farted – no scratch that last one!).
A great piece of work that will forever scar my idyllic image of mermaids!

all your artwork shows great execution and detail.
