Description
Each night, he comes to Earth. He comes, following the nightmares way through the stars. Nightmares are there, waiting in the fog of this dark road. They try to reach his hands. He'll take one of them, the others will have to try again each following night. The guy is not meant to look nasty, he must be handsome to trap his victims (for the ones who could ask why he is not a monster)
Just a quick story
I've done it with no idea of what I would do at first, it was just a bad quick sketch that has become a painting. It was the first time I was painting spacescapes, it's very hard to do but I'm quite pleased with the result
No refs used here, I've only taken a look at my left hand when I was drawing (then flipped it horizontally.... lazy me!)
I hope you'll like it, it has been hard to paint but it was interesting since it's the first time I was doing something like that
If you think that some parts could be improved, please tell me, I would like to fix the flaws. There must be tons of anatomy issues (I'm baaaad at it!) All crits are very very welcome!
Photoshop CS and a wacom intuos 3A4, approx 40 hours.

I have two (very) minor crits,
the hair is just a bit flatty and the shoulder
definition is a tiny bit off.
The background is marvellous!

my favourite from u actually!
see ya!
07/02/06 @939
Thank you. I love it.

About the hair, I didn't want to do something realistic (the whole painting wasn't intended to be realistic) but you're the second person that mentions it... maybe I should rework on it even if I wanted to make it look as it is now
07/03/06 @435
that's wonderfull!! I love it!
the shadow hands are sooo great!!
07/03/06 @441
Something bothers me bout the earth (don't know why, maybe because it looks more like a ball than a planet in space, but since you didn't intend it to be realistic... ^^)
07/03/06 @463
07/03/06 @478
Pegahol mentions the earth looks like a ball rather than a planet – maybe that could be helped by blending the darker part of the planet into the background more, so it is not so obviously defined.
The concept is great – and the execution is meticulous.

a stunning painting, but not really my cuppa...(as andy says it). Personally, I don't like the color selection, but that's just me. The nebulas, planet and stars are really well done, I have no idea how you would go about painting that digitally...
A couple crits...I think the bottom portion could be cropped a bit. Seems to me that there is too much dress or whatever he's wearing. Also, the hair, although very cool looking, seems a bit flat.
Great painting Diane! Oh, I would recommend modifying the description to "he comes to Earth" rather than "he comes on Earth"....heh

Ok, so I won't touch the hair anymore, I like it as it is now
About the planet, I should maybe rework on it....
I won't crop the bottom though, it would kill the composition. I have tried is and I was not satisfied with the result.
And I'm going to edit the description.... stupid me!
07/03/06 @587
It could be just me, you know -- I figured you'd appreciate the mention.

It reminds me a bit of "The melody of your demise" by Enayla.

Valera : I had not thought about Enayla's painting but I may have been influenced since I just love it! Maybe it reminds you of this painting because of the hands and colours (though mine are more "toxic"

he really looks like the lord of nightmare, this painting expresses a lot. i sort of attachs to me because has sentimental meaning at least to me, because of a weird phase i've been through a month ago or two. and the colors are really like... unsual.
congrats
07/03/06 @787
Colours're awesome. I think you could make a deeper shadow on his body
Your anatomy is not that bad , I feel some flaws but I'm a bad helper here - better get yourself a reference
Beautiful spacescape. I can hardly believe you didn't use any reference!
Now I'm probably gonna write something too smart for me - I'm not sure but I think the composition should stress more his destination - Earth. Cause till I read the description I didn't know that - the pass of his clothe is not enough I quess, try to play with his clothe direction - if you still have some will to touch it
Last crit (don't kill me) I think you should stress the hands on his clothe and probably add some more detailes there
Forgive me for criticism.
You're one of my favorite artists. I admire you and your work.
Just want to help if I can)
Awesome!

I like it better without the little fella.
I guess you could keep two versions.

Thanks a lot curlyhair! When I said no refs, I meant that I've not copied anything. I've had to take a look at nebulas shots before painting it though. But no refs for the Lord

07/04/06 @429
About the goblin thing, I don't know if I'll do a painting of it though. I'm not crazy about this subject....
07/04/06 @435
From Alucard to Sephiroth, I'm one for long haired albino men, and I love to paint them too. I don't know what do you think about, but, in my opinion, eyebrows shouldnt be white as their hair is, but a bit darker... coz white eyebrows look ok on face closeup... but at the distance, gives the face a weird look, like mixing with flesh on a highlightening way, so it seems it's a weird bone there. Just a comment :3
Keep the good work and top marks from here.
07/04/06 @441
About the eyebrows, it looks indeed a little bit off on the small version but I wanted to make them as white as his hair and eyelashes, I had not thought of what it would look like on a small version. The screen resolution also "eats" details, it looks much better when it's printed!

07/31/06 @041
Clearly you had a LOT of work painting this monstruous work, it's not only huge but also equally rich. The universe has a very silky feeling which suits perfectly the overall atmosphere. Altough the details of the "clothing" are stunning, beautifully colored and draw, I have to confess I'm not to keen about the painting you did on the body. It doesn't confer a very realistic feeling by looking a bit "plastic"... I hope you understand what I am trying to say here.
But that's about the only thing I can picky about. Overall it's obviously a very impressive work, I salute you : )
07/31/06 @380
